The rock formations off the Thai island of Koh Samui hold both peace and drama. They rise dramatically to tower over the sea, often covered with lush vegetation.  The calm turquoise waters of the inlet are a stark contrast to the rocky entrance to this slice of heaven made famous in the movie The Beach.  I vsited here in late 2024 and had my own drama (albeit no Di Caprio in sight) - high seas, an open boat and a failed engine just as sun was setting in a shipping channel... but that did not detract from the majesty and magic of this inlet in the islands around Kho Phi Phi.
